[Listen to Asha read this story]
(Told by Jayadev)
I was with Swamiji having dinner with the family of an Ananda friend. They were educated, refined people, but not devotees, so the conversation was about art, language, politics—everything but God. It was interesting, but part of me kept thinking, “Here I am sitting next to Swamiji. How nice it would be if we could speak more freely about the things that are closest to our hearts.”
At that moment Swamiji turned to me and softly hummed one of my favorite chants: “Lord I am Thine. Be Thou mine.”
I felt he was telling me, “No matter what you are doing outwardly, your consciousness can always be with God.”
